For a full afternoon tea of sandwiches, cakes and scones prior booking of 24 hours is required. No children under 5 are accepted and reductions for children are only made if sharing a room as an extra person. Dogs are welcome in the hotel but at no time may they be left alone in the bedroom. They must be left in the car during all meals and any damage caused will be charged for. Guide dogs may be with their partners at all times. Smoking. Farlam Hall is a large old Border manor house set in 12 acres of gardens and paddocks and sheltered by ancient trees. It was extended twice in the 1800's from the original four room fortified farm house to the size it is today. The Thompson family who lived here designed it for a large family to live and entertain in and in many ways it is still being used for the same purpose. Downstairs at Farlam there are two large drawing rooms both with open fires and comfortable seating. There is always seating for all the guests. We have no bar area but are happy to serve drinks in the garden, drawing rooms or in your room. The dining room is a huge room with floor to ceiling windows that overlook the garden and ornamental lake and allow the light to flood in. During the quieter times we are able to divide the room which does not spoil the feel but creates a more intimate room. This can also be arranged for private parties of up to 22 people. We offer a small menu that changes daily. this allows us to use the best of local produce and avoids our residents being presented with the same selection every day. If the chefs are given 24 hours notice they are very happy to offer a full 3 choice vegetarian menu. The less notice they have the less choice they are able to offer. Our style of food is modern English Country House which combines a light and balanced touch with traditional values. The dress code is Smart please. We always suggest that people wear what they are happy in for a special occasion. Dinner is served each evening at 8.00pm and we suggest that you make yourself comfortable in one of the drawing rooms around 7.15 to 7.30pm to relax with a drink and canapes. If you are delayed after 8.00pm on your way to us please keep us informed so that we will be able to help on your arrival. The restaurant is only open at lunchtime for New Year's Day, Easter Sunday and Mothers Day. We are always happy to open the restaurant any day of the week for pre-booked parties of 10 or more. Light lunches are always available for residents. Bedrooms.
